Indica vs Sativa vs Hybrid: A Simple Guide for Beginners

Indica vs Sativa vs Hybrid: A Simple Guide for Beginners

Walk into any cannabis conversation and you will hear “indica”, “sativa” and “hybrid”. Here is what those words mean in practice – and how to choose.

Indica – relax and unwind

Indica strains are traditionally associated with calming, body-centred effects. People reach for them in the evening, for sleep, or to relax sore muscles. Examples on our menu: Bubba Kush, Death Bubba, Pink Kush.

Sativa – uplift and focus

Sativa strains are associated with uplifting, cerebral effects – good for daytime, creative projects or socialising. Examples: Jack Herer, Super Lemon Haze, Sour Jack.

Hybrid – the best of both

Most modern strains are hybrids that sit somewhere in between. Many are labelled “indica-dominant” or “sativa-dominant” to give you a hint.

  • Check the THC percentage – 15–20% is plenty for most beginners.
