Edibles are popular because they are discreet, smoke-free and long-lasting – but they work differently from smoking. Here is how to enjoy them safely.
Start low: 2.5 to 5 mg
If you are new, begin with 2.5–5 mg of THC. A 10 mg gummy can be cut in half or quarters. Experienced users often take 10–25 mg; only very experienced consumers go higher.
Wait at least two hours
Edibles take 30 minutes to 2 hours to kick in because they are digested first. The most common mistake is taking a second dose too early. Set a timer and wait.
Effects last longer
Expect 4–8 hours of effects, sometimes longer. Do not plan to drive, and clear your evening the first time.
If you take too much
- Stay calm – it is unpleasant but not dangerous for healthy adults.
- Drink water, eat a snack, rest somewhere quiet.
- A CBD product may help take the edge off.
- Call 8-1-1 (HealthLink BC) if you are worried.
Reading the label
“150 mg bag, 10 pieces” means 15 mg per piece. Always check the per-piece dose, not just the bag total. Store edibles locked away – they look like candy to children and pets.
Shop edibles
Gummies, chocolates and baked goods with clear per-piece dosing.
